Bella Swan has always been different from other girls. She’s intelligent, sarcastic, and in her eyes, just plain ordinary.
But after leaving Phoenix, Arizona to go live with her father in Forks, her life changes and becomes anything but “ordinary.” Bella is overwhelmed with all the attention she receives from the tiny student body of Forks High. However, a beautiful boy named Edward Cullen and his equally attractive family completely ignore her. Intrigued, Bella decides to investigate why Edward has taken such a sudden dislike to her before they’ve even talked. A young Native American boy, Jacob Black, is taken with Bella and reveals to her the unthinkable: Edward and his family are a coven of vampires. And so begins one of the most achingly beautiful, yet dangerous, love stories ever written. Edward and Bella quickly become more and more engrossed with each other, despite Edward’s warnings. And to Edward’s surprise, Bella doesn’t hold his vampire soul against him, and still falls in love with him. But danger constantly lurks in the pages of Twilight, and Bella is in even more at risk than she ever would have imagined. A group of vampires and their leader James are after Bella for one reason: to kill her. The Cullens try to save Bella using their best efforts, but James tells her that he has her mother. Bella escapes the Cullens careful watch to go find James, put he had been lying to her – Bella’s mother was fine. James beats Bella, and then bites her. Through the early pain of a vampire transformation, Bella is aware that Edward – her “angel” – has come to save her. The Cullens kill James, and Edward is forced to suck out the venom in Bella’s hand so she isn’t turned into a vampire. He succeeds, and Bella lives. At the Forks High prom, Bella reveals to Edward that she wishes to become one of the undead – a vampire. Edward is completely against the idea – he doesn’t want Bella to lose her soul.
